Turkey Day dinner tips: Don't overdo it, but don't overthink it either

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — One of the biggest mistakes you can make on Thanksgiving is overthinking the food you eat. One day does not determine your overall health. It also makes sense to not overdo it, especially if you have underlying health issues.

The American Heart Association recommends that you focus on family, friends and celebration. There are several key tips to follow, too. Eat a good breakfast, and go into the Thanksgiving feast with a plan to eat slowly and let the food digest.

However, don't feel guilty if you eat more than normal. Dieticians agree that we all need to reward ourselves now and then, and if you choose Thanksgiving, it is fine.

One strong warning: Do not drink and drive, and be vigilant if you are on the road with your family.
