PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner announced charges against two suspects in the 2022 mass shooting in Kensington that left nine people injured.
Michael Smith-Davis and an unidentified juvenile are accused of shooting nine people at Kensington and Allegheny avenues around 11 p.m. on Nov. 5, 2022.
Investigators said a handful of people were outside when someone shot at a group of people on the sidewalk before taking off in a car. Police said the people who realized they had been hurt ran into a nearby bar.
"Fortunately, none of the nine victims died, but these young men turned that location into a war zone," Krasner said.
"They exited a vehicle and fired a barrage of shots at a group of people outside a social gathering outside of Jack's Bar. There were 41 fired cartridge casings recovered that night," said Assistant District Attorney Alyssa Amoroso, who serves on the city's Gun Violence Task Force.
She said the arrests are one example of the goals of the task force.
"We will continue to work closely with Philadelphia police, the agents of the Attorney General's Office to solve unsolved shootings and homicides in the city," she said.
Smith-Davis is charged with attempted murder and related offenses.
Officials have not been able to contact all of the victims to inform them of the arrests. Any victims who need assistance should call 215-686-8027.

In January 2025, Smith-Davis pleaded guilty to 11 of 58 charges, including nine counts of attempted murder, a conspiracy charge, and a gun charge. All other charges were dropped. He is set to be sentenced in April.
