POTTSTOWN, P.A. (KYW Newsradio) — Two 20-year-olds are charged in connection with a deadly shooting in Pottstown last week. According to charging documents, the shooting was unintentional and the firearm was illegally owned.

Twenty-year-old Xavier Jeffers was shot in the head and killed at 9:45 pm last Wednesday, May 20, in a bedroom on West Street in Pottstown.

Montgomery County detectives said Jeffers was in the room with Denajah Bailey and Amaury Sahad, playing with the gun when Bailey pointed the gun at Jeffers’ head and pulled the trigger.

Bailey told police she pulled the trigger two other times that evening, including once with the gun pointed at her own head and nothing happened.

In court documents, a fourth person tells police she was FaceTiming with Jeffers at the time, and saw the three passing the gun around pretending like they were shooting each other.

She says she thought Bailey was holding the gun and she heard the pistol slide being racked while Bailey and Jeffers were laughing, then a gunshot. The phone fell to the floor and she heard Sahad say, “What did you do?”

Bailey was charged with Third Degree Murder and involuntary manslaughter.

Initially, police said Sahad told them he found the gun in an alley near the apartment, but investigators said evidence showed he illegally obtained the gun earlier this month.

He’s charged with receiving stolen property and illegally possessing a handgun.
