
PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police have arrested and identified Christopher Burkel, 28, as the driver of a U-Haul they said hit and killed a woman in Kensington before trying to escape.
Officials said around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday a U-Haul truck was involved in a minor accident with an SUV at the intersection of Kensington and Allegheny Avenues.
The U-Haul fled the scene traveling at a high speed on the 1800 block of East Cambria Street near Kensington Avenue hitting a woman in her 40s.
Medics declared the woman dead almost immediately.
According to police, Burkel tried to get away again on foot but the police were able to catch him.
He’s charged with driving without a license, homicide by vehicle DUI, involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving, and other related offenses.
Investigators have not identified the victim.
