PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Isaiah Tilghman, who escaped from Blair County Prison in December, was captured Friday in Philadelphia.

According to U.S. Marshals Service, Tilghman, 33, was apprehended around 11 a.m. along Aramingo Avenue.

He was being held in Blair County for parole violation and drug-related offenses. He escaped on Dec. 3 by crawling through a ventilation shaft.

On Dec. 15, Marshals found a red Ford F-150 in South Philadelphia they suspected Tilghman stole.

Marshals say they gained information throughout the week that Tilghman was in the Kensington area. On Wednesday, officials set up surveillance operations at residences he was believed to be hiding.

Around 10 a.m. Friday, U.S. Marshals spotted him on East Schiller Street and followed him to the Planet Fitness on Aramingo Avenue.

They called for backup from Philadelphia Police and K9 officers to assist in the arrest.

As Tilghman exited the gym, he was surrounded by 20 investigators and arrested without incident.

He's currently being held at an undisclosed correctional facility as he awaits transportation back to Blair County to face escape charges.

He is charged with escape and flight to avoid apprehension, among other things.
