Police: Uber passenger shoots driver in Cobbs Creek

Driver is in critical condition

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are looking for an Uber passenger who shot the driver from behind Thursday night in Cobbs Creek.

Police say the driver, a man in his 50s, picked up two people. One was dropped off at a location, but the other passenger stayed in the car.

When they got to Cobbs Creek Parkway and Delancey Street around 10 p.m., police say the remaining passenger fired a shot into the driver’s seat, striking the driver in the armpit. The shooter ran out of the car.

Capt. John Walker said the wounded driver got out of his car but did not put it in park.

“The car, still rolling, strikes a parked car and he goes into the fence of the house,” he said.

Broadcast partner NBC10 received surveillance footage of the aftermath of the shooting:

The driver is in critical condition at the hospital. No one else was injured.

Police aren’t exactly sure yet of a motive. Anyone with information is asked to contact police as they continue their investigation.
