PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A petition has been sent to Pennsylvania's attorney general asking her to investigate current and former University of the Arts senior administrators for possible wrongdoing leading to the collapse of the University.
UArts was closed permanently last Friday.
Members of United Academics of Philadelphia, American Federation of Teachers Local 9608 signed a petition, and it was sent to Attorney General Michelle Henry.
UAP wants the A.G.'s office to see if any of the university's leaders over the past decade or so were engaged in deception, negligence, incompetence or any malpractice that led to the fall of the private arts university.
Among those that UAP wants investigated are university trustees, including UArts Board Chair Judson A. Aaron (2016-2024); UArts presidents Sean T. Buffington (2007-2014), David Yager (2014-2023) and Kerry Walk (2023-2024); and UArts chief financial officers Steven J. Lightcap (2011-2023), Bryant Morgan (2023-2024) and Eric Leal (2024).
UAP is a union dedicated to making higher education sustainable for faculty and staff working in Philadelphia-area colleges and universities.
Separately from UAP's petition, the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General and state lawmakers said Friday that they are reviewing the abrupt closure of University of the Arts.
