UPPER DARBY, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — One person is dead and three people are injured after a gunman sprayed bullets at dozens of mourners in Upper Darby Monday night.
Police say people were gathering at a memorial on the 600 block of Long Lane around 5:15 p.m. for a person who was fatally shot last week, on Aug. 17, in Clifton Heights when a dark Chevy Malibu pulled to a stop in front of the venue.
Upper Darby Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt says that’s when a man got out of the car and fired shots at the building.
He says about 50 to 100 people fled the building as police arrived at the scene. At least four people were shot. Three are injured — one, critically —and one is dead. Their identities are not yet known.
Police believe Monday's shooting was in retaliation to the one in Clifton Heights. Birchett Lamont King, who was wanted in connection to the Clifton Heights shooting, is now in police custody.
