UPPER MORELAND, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — Police in Montgomery County say they arrested a man who caused a crash, pulled a gun on the other driver and then stole her phone.
Upper Moreland Township police say they got a tip and were able to arrest the suspect, without incident, very early Tuesday morning. He has not been identified yet.
Upper Moreland Police Chief Andy Block says witnesses told police the suspect was in a silver Honda Accord, speeding and driving erratically, in Abington during the morning rush on Monday. When he got to York Road and Davisville Road in Willow Grove close to 7 a.m. Monday, he abruptly turned in front of another car and caused a minor crash, police said.
“He’s immediately out of the car with the handgun, up to [the other driver’s] door, opens the driver’s door, screaming at her not to call the police”, Block said. “It’s a horrifying experience, and thank God she wasn’t physically injured — but mentally this will affect anybody. If somebody walks up to you and puts a handgun in your face and they start screaming at you.”
Block says the guy then demanded that she give him her cell phone, she did, and then he got back in the Accord and went north on Davisville Road.
Police were looking for the Accord, which they believed had a dent on the passenger side rear quarter panel and a ventvisor on the front passenger side window. Police urged people to contact them, and that’s what happened, and that’s what they say led to the arrest.
