PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A West Philadelphia family is in shock after the row home next door suddenly collapsed Sunday morning.
“We just heard a big boom. We thought it was thunder or firecrackers going on,” said Tameka.
She lives along 61st and Delancey streets and said around 6:30 a.m. her family noticed the vacant home next door had fallen into theirs — the entire rear portion was just a pile of rubble.
No one was injured, and PGW said no gas lines were active at the time of the collapse, but Tameka’s family is worried about how safe it is to stay in their home.
The Department of Licenses and Inspections is assessing the damage.
“My hopes going forward is that the City of Philadelphia starts checking these properties and keeping them up for their structural damage and holding them accountable for it,” Tameka said.
