Police: Middle school janitor in Wayne had inappropriate relationships with 14-year-old students

23-year-old Rushon Drayton is charged with multiple counts of sexual assault

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A custodian at a Montgomery County middle school has been arrested for alleged sexual abuse of two students. He is accused of having inappropriate relationships with multiple students, and police believe their might be additional victims.

The complaint against Rushon Dreyton, 23, of Paoli — known to students as "Shawn" — alleges that he befriended them by handing out candy several times a week. That's how District Attorney Deb Ryan says Dreyton groomed students at Valley Forge Middle School in Wayne, where he worked as a janitor.

On April 10, the mother of a 14-year-old student at the school reached out to Tredyffrin Township Police Department after finding screenshots of inappropriate and sexual messages, allegedly between Shawn and her daughter.

The girl told police that Shawn asked her for her cell phone number when they were alone in the hallway, which led to him texting and FaceTiming with her during the week, on weekends and at school.

Last Thursday, police became aware of a second alleged victim, a 15-year-old. She told detectives that the two had communicated about sexually explicit topics and that Dreyton had given her inappropriate gifts including a sex toy and marijuana. Police also say hundreds of inappropriate texts and photos were recovered.

Drayton turned himself in Tuesday morning after a warrant was issued for his arrest. His bail was set at $50,000.

He faces multiple counts of sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor, corruption of minors and other related charges.

Police say the investigation into Drayton’s alleged actions is ongoing. They believe there could be additional Valley Forge Middle School victims and are asking anyone with information to call Tredyffrin Township detectives at 610-664-3221.
