PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The 31-year-man charged with killing four people in an I-76 car crash last month waived his preliminary hearing Tuesday morning on homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence and drug charges.
Victor Spizzirri is accused of killing four people in the car: 23-year-old twins Tucker and Chris Schimelfeing, 24-year-old Michael Comerford, and 31-year-old Uber driver Jean Santana.
On April 15 around 1:45 a.m., law enforcement sources said Spizzirri was high on cocaine, ketamine and meth and was driving along I-76 near the Valley Forge and Roosevelt Boulevard exits when he crashed into their Tesla.
Prosecutors said according to video footage of the crash, the Tesla driver was in the center lane and going the speed limit when Spizzirri side-swiped the car, flipping it over several times.
The victims’ car hit a bridge, killing all four inside. Comerford and the Schimelfeings were from Clarks Summit, just northwest of Scranton. Santana was from Philadelphia.
Spizzirri will be formally arraigned to the higher Common Pleas Court later this month.
