MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — The family of the man shot and killed in a Mount Holly park Monday night held a vigil in his honor the following evening.

The victim, identified as 25-year-old Andre Ross, was shot and killed around 5:45 p.m. Monday at Mill Dam Park, across the street from where he lived.

About 80 people attended Tuesday’s vigil. They released balloons shaped as blue and white stars and red hearts and laid out candles and flowers in his memory.

His aunt, Shanika Ross, said it feels like she lost a son.

“He was a good kid. He loved his daughter, he loved his family,” she said. Andre Ross had a 5-year-old daughter. “He matured a lot once he had his child, and that’s what made me so proud of him.”

Shanika Ross said it has been difficult to watch her younger sister deal with something no mother should be subjected to.

“To see my sister going through it, it touches me. It touches my soul, because I would never, ever think anyone in my family would ever experience this. Ever,” she said.

The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating Andre Ross’ death as a homicide, but there’s no word yet on any suspects. Details surrounding the shooting are still unknown.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to email Mount Holly police at intel@twp.mountholly.nj.us or the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office at tips@co.burlington.nj.us.
