PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Villanova University says it will close the newly acquired campus of Cabrini University for renovations.

Villanova officially took ownership of the Radnor campus Friday. In a statement, Villanova said the Cabrini campus would be closed until at least the fall of 2026.

Villanova hasn't said what it will do with the 112-year-old campus but said it would keep the academic buildings and dorms in their current functions.

Last summer, Villanova sent a letter to students, staff, and faculty saying Cabrini was battling severe financial issues, including decreased enrollment and an increase in competition with other colleges.

Cabrini said it was searching for a similar college that could help with financial issues and reached out to Villanova, for it shares the same Roman Catholic values as them.

Cabrini closed in May after 67 years.
