PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Three people are dead after a violent wrong-way crash on I-76 early Saturday morning.
Pennsylvania State Police said around 5 a.m., a white Ford pickup truck was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes near Belmont Avenue. Troopers attempted to stop the driver, who was traveling toward them, but the driver did not stop.
Troopers attempted to stop the driver once more, but this time, the driver sped past and struck two vehicles head-on. Three people died.
Car parts were scattered across the westbound lanes, and a single car door could be seen leaning against the guard rail.
The westbound lanes were closed for nearly eight hours.
