CAMDEN, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — On the 75th anniversary of Virtua Health’s Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, the Camden hospital announced it is expanding as part of a $500 million project. Virtua said the renovation will ensure the hospital’s next 75 years are just as impactful as the last.

The 200,000-square-foot addition, which will include 78 private patient rooms, 40 surgical prep and recovery rooms, 10 operating rooms, and more, will increase the hospital’s size by 35%.

“We’re excited because we’re able to reinvest back into the community in bringing state-of-the-art care, so we’re very excited about a $500 million investment into the facility,” said Virtua CEO Dennis Pullin.

He said the health system’s largest donation ever — $5 million from the Marvin Samson Foundation — helped make this possible. The new addition, a six-story patient care pavilion, will be built and named in honor of Samson.

“[Our Lady of Lourdes] has been a part of this community for quite some time, and we are committed to South Jersey, to the city of Camden,” Pullin added.

Work is expected to be completed toward the end of 2027.
