CHICAGO (Audacy) — It was straight out of a movie script. And it came on a "Field of Dreams" that a group out of Blue Bell has maintained for the last year.
Fittingly for the occasion, the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees emerged from the cornfield behind the right-field wall in pregame introductions for the “Field of Dreams” matchup in Dyersville, Iowa on Thursday evening.
“Field of Dreams” movie star Kevin Costner was the first individual to head from the cornfield to the field, which landscaping company Brightview, headquartered in Blue Bell, Montgomery County built and kept in condition after the 2020 version of the "Field of Dreams" game was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
After the players followed, he gave a short speech, calling it “perfect” for the “first-place White Sox” to face the “mighty Yankees” in such a scenic setting. There was a hearty ovation from the crowd of about 8,000 when Costner proclaimed “first-place White Sox.”
The matchup marks the first time an MLB regular-season game has ever been played in Iowa.
