NEWARK, Del. (KYW Newsradio) — Another round of severe weather swept through the region Tuesday evening, knocking down trees and power lines. Several areas saw flash flooding, prompting water rescues, and there were waterspouts and a brief tornado at two shore points.
Most of the damage from Tuesday’s storms was left behind in South Jersey and Delaware.
On Spruce Glen Drive, a neighborhood full of single homes off Kirkwood Highway in Newark, Delaware, a massive tree on the sidewalk was ripped out of the ground. It fell and crushed a car parked on a driveway, and it hit two other cars that were parked on the street.

Thousands of Delmarva Power customers lost power. Crews made progress in restoring service, but around 1,200 homes and businesses were still in the dark as of 7 a.m. Wednesday.
There were also some water rescues in Wilmington.
Meanwhile, two waterspouts were spotted, one near Cape May Point in New Jersey and the other by Lewes, Delaware.

“I opened the door, grabbed my phone, looked outside — there’s a waterspout just coming on the bay right over there. It was actually really cool to watch,” McCourt told NBC10. “It got really windy for a second, almost like torrential downpours started right after I saw the waterspout. So we were kinda worried, but not too too crazy.”
The National Weather Service confirmed the waterspout hit land as an EF-0 tornado around 6:15 p.m. for approximately one minute, but did not cause serious damage. Officials said there was some tree damage in the area, but no one was hurt.
