PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A new website is giving chefs a platform to supplement their income by leading online cooking demonstrations.
Jake Doherty created Deri Dari along with some friends from Bavaria, where he’s lived and operated his own businesses over the years.
“Deri dari in southern Germany basically means cash or to make an exchange for cash,” he explained. “It’s a trade.”
Users on the site can choose from a variety of chefs and their recipes, as well as the type of experience they’re looking for.
“You’ll see on the first thing when you go to book an experience is the cost set by the chef,” said Doherty. “You then book the experience and then put in your ZIP code.”
Some locations offer to deliver all the ingredients to your home. That also depends on the delivery and logistics manager to connect with local growers.
“What we really want is to try and bring back home cooking and use locally sourced ingredients,” he added.
The website was inspired by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“Chefs around the world are suffering,” he said. “Restaurants are closing left and right, and I saw an opportunity to create a platform where chefs could find a way to put food on their tables for their own families.”
