PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A day later than originally scheduled, the Phillies are set to take on the Braves to a sold-out Opening Day crowd at Citizens Bank Park.
The season opener was postponed due to rain on Thursday. Gates open at 12:35 p.m. Friday, and the first pitch is set for 3:05 p.m.
Fortunately for fans, the Opening Day giveaway is a scarf, which could come in handy on this windy day.
Almost important for fans: The ballpark is enforcing a new bag policy this season. Clutch purses and fanny packs are allowed as long as they are no larger than 5 inches by 7 inches. Clear bags are encouraged. Non-clear bags like backpacks and drawstrings are no longer allowed. The clear bags have a size limit of 12-by-6-by-12 inches.
The Phillies said the changes will speed up fans’ entry into the stadium. All bags will be subject to inspection upon entry, per MLB security regulations, and clear bags allow for faster searches.
Medical bags and diaper bags are allowed and do not need to be clear — but binocular cases, tote bags, mesh bags and patterned plastic bags are not allowed.
Friday’s ceremonies will get underway at 2:20 p.m. The 2024 Phillies will parade in from Ashburn Alley, as they do every year. This season also marks the 20th anniversary of Citizens Bank Park.
