PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer-related cause of death among men in the United States. Over many years, numerous cases involving the prostate-specific antigen test (PSA) have led to men getting life-saving treatment.

However, there is a great deal of controversy about the test. In most cases, prostate cancer is very slow-growing, and many men develop non-aggressive forms as they get older and don't even know it.

A positive PSA test can also lead to potentially harmful biopsies and aggressive treatment to fight the cancer. So, what can you do?

Each case is individual. The United States Prevention Task Force recommends men between the ages of 55 and 69 talk with their doctor and make a shared decision about prostate cancer and testing.
