PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — International travel can be exciting and fun. More people than ever are traveling to other parts of the world, but according to a new study, two-thirds of these international travelers will develop a travel-related illness.
Many of these issues are mild, but some can be life-threatening. Medical experts are now recommending that people meet with their physicians and discuss the nature of their travel, as well as other key issues.
Two potentially life-threatening health issues are hepatitis and pneumonia, which can be prevented or made less severe with immunization.
The concept is to try and prevent issues before they occur. Another concern for those who will be traveling for an extended period is health insurance while abroad.
