WILDWOOD, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — The Wildwood Boardwalk will be off limits overnight starting next month.
The Wildwood Board of Commissioners passed an ordinance Wednesday night that will close the boardwalk year-round between 1 and 5 a.m. It goes into effect on May 13.
Wildwood Deputy Mayor Steve Mikulski said, “These hours are designed to limit late-night crowds and support a welcoming, friendly atmosphere for everyone to enjoy the best of our boardwalk.”
City commissioners said the measure also allows legitimate business operations to continue.
“We fully support our Boardwalk businesses,” said Mikulski. “This is not about limiting business activity; it’s about preventing loitering, large gatherings, and the types of behavior that tend to occur after hours.”
Wildwood has taken other measures in the past to try to keep the boardwalk safe, including a 10 p.m. curfew for kids 17 and under, a ban on backpacks, and an increased police presence.
