WILDWOOD, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — The Wildwood boardwalk could soon be off limits overnight as city leaders appear poised to pass an ordinance to close the boardwalk during some twilight hours.
The measure advanced after its first reading last week in front of the Wildwood City Commissioners. It would close the boardwalk to the public between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. year-round.
City commissioners said the move is to limit late night crowds and improve safety, while also allowing legitimate business operations to continue.
“We fully support our Boardwalk businesses," said Deputy Mayor Steve Mikulski. "This is not about limiting business activity, it’s about preventing loitering, large gatherings, and the types of behavior that tend to occur after hours.”
A second reading and public hearing about the ordinance will be held on Wednesday, April 22. It is likely to be adopted by the commissioners.
