PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Starting next week, anyone under 18 is not allowed on Wildwood’s streets and boardwalk between midnight and 6 a.m.

The city’s board of commissioners voted Wednesday to approve the new curfew, which begins Aug. 2 as an emergency directive. Ordinances like this typically take 20 days to take effect.

The curfew comes in response to large, unruly crowds that caused chaos over the Fourth of July weekend.

Wildwood isn’t alone in its efforts to curb the rowdiness. Ocean City implemented an 11 p.m. curfew and a ban on backpacks on the boardwalk after 8 p.m. in response to crowds of drunk teens over Memorial Day weekend.

And, Sea Isle City imposed a 10 p.m. curfew for kids this summer season.
