WOODSTOWN, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — First severe heat, then severe storms. This Salem County borough can’t catch a break. Residents said the rain and strong winds felt like a tornado, and they woke up Sunday to trees and power lines knocked down. A large section of the area lost power for hours.

As of Sunday morning, some residents had electrical service restored, while others like Shawn Richardson were still without.

“Everything is shut off,” he said. “Like, we have nothing. It’s one after the other. It’s a domino effect.”

He said seeing the people on his block was a good thing. “People started coming outside again, which was nice, and we started talking.”

But he said he isn’t sure when the power lines will be repaired for his block.

Lindsey, a server at the Woodstown Diner, says she was on her way home when the wind became more violent, stirring leaves and debris like a tornado.

“When I got to my house, there was a tree leaning towards my house that looks like it could fall on my shed. I mean, everything in my yard was completely tossed around. The basketball court was tossed around. All the neighbors were outside, and we lost power for hours.”

She said Atlantic City Electric got the power back on eventually for her area.

Meanwhile, others in the community wait.
