PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A woman was shot and killed on her front porch in what appeared to be a shootout in Strawberry Mansion overnight.

It happened around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday at 31st Street and Montgomery Avenue.

“She was talking to about two other people when shots were fired toward that porch, toward the direction of the three individuals,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small. “The female who got shot in the back ran inside the property and collapsed.”

Medics found the 27-year-old victim in the living room, where she was pronounced dead. She was later identified as Jasmine Johnson.

Police were not initially sure if she was the intended target. At least 20 shots were fired on both sides of the street from a rifle and a handgun. Most shots were fired toward the spot where Johnson was, police said.

Several bullets hit the home, which police described as a rooming house where Johnson lived, and an adjoining property. There were other people in both buildings at the time of the shooting, but no one else was hit, police said.

Investigators viewed some surveillance footage from the neighborhood and plan on looking for more. No one was arrested and no weapons were recovered.

There have been 155 homicides in Philadelphia in 2025 as of Tuesday night, according to police data — a 17% decrease compared to this same point in 2024.
