PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash while crossing the street in Tacony early Friday morning. Police are looking for the driver who sped off.

Around 2:30 a.m., police said a woman was walking along Levick Street, near Edmund Street, when a speeding SUV hit her. The intersection is a few blocks away from Torresdale Avenue and I-95.

The impact threw her about 200 feet and knocked her out of her shoes. She was pronounced dead shortly after cops and medics arrived at the scene.

There are no stop signs or crosswalks on the one-way street where the victim was hit.

Witnesses told police the driver was in a dark-colored or black SUV. It likely has serious front-end damage from the crash — pieces of the car were left behind on the street.

There are homes along Levick Street and a few businesses as well, so police are looking for surveillance footage they can use to identify the driver.

Officials also said there was a separate fatal hit-and-run Friday around 1:30 a.m. A man was crossing 63rd Street, near Lancaster Avenue in Overbrook, when he was hit.

Police said the driver was possibly in a white SUV. The 67-year-old victim died at the hospital.
