PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A woman who was crossing the street was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Northeast Philadelphia Thursday night. Police are searching for the driver who got away.

Police received 911 calls and rushed over to the intersection of Cottman and Brous avenues around 11:30 p.m. There are homes and businesses surrounding the busy area, which is blocks away from Roosevelt Boulevard and the Roosevelt Mall.

A woman was down in the middle of the intersection, police said. She had been hit and dragged by a car, suffering severe injuries to her head and torso. The victim was also missing a shoe.

“The distance between where we found the sneaker and where we actually found the female lying is a distance of about 200 feet, so there is a possibility that speed was a factor,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small.

The unidentified victim was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators said the car was a dark-colored SUV, pictured below. Police urge anyone with information to contact 215-685-3180.
