Woman killed in Strawberry Mansion in early-morning gunfire

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Someone shot a woman in the head in Strawberry Mansion early Tuesday morning and sent bullets flying into nearby homes.

A 35-year-old woman was on the sidewalk along Huntingdon Street, near Ridge Avenue, when someone started firing just after 4 a.m., police said. She was hit in the head and died at the hospital.

Chief Inspector Scott Small says it's a lucky thing no one else was hit.

"A total of four bullets went through three separate properties, through the front windows, lodged in the walls and the ceiling. We knocked on the doors of these properties to check on the well being of everyone inside, and luckily everyone inside of those properties, they were not struck by gunfire," Small said.

Investigators found a set of car keys next to the woman's body. They are looking for surveillance video that might have captured the shooting.

Police have not made any arrests.
