PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A woman was struck and killed by a SEPTA trolley while jogging in West Philadelphia on Monday morning.
It happened shortly after 9 a.m. According to SEPTA, an eastbound T3 trolley hit 64-year-old Samuber Shikhverdieva at the intersection of South 45th Street and Chester Avenue.
Police said she was jogging south on Chester Avenue when she was struck.
She died at the scene.
Nick Keen said he was walking by when he saw fire crews placing jacks under the trolley to lift it and realized he could see someone stuck underneath.
“I was just walking through the park, and seeing a dead body at 9:30 on a Monday morning — it’s real sad to think about,” Keen said. “This could have been somebody’s mother, somebody’s grandmother.”
SEPTA said nobody else was injured.
The T3 service is still operating on Woodland Avenue in both directions.
