PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A woman crashed her car while trying to get away from her ex-boyfriend after he shot her in West Mount Airy Thursday night.

It happened around 11:30 p.m. on West Upsall Street, near Greene Street.

The woman told police she was in her vehicle when her ex drove by and fired two shots into her car door.

“When the female fled because she was getting shot at, she struck a parked, unattended car, causing her vehicle to flip onto its side,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small. “Police and medics found her trapped in the vehicle.”

First responders had to cut the roof off the car to get to her.

The woman was shot in the leg and suffered bruises from the crash. She is now in stable condition in the hospital.

The ex-boyfriend drove off.

Officers were called out to a domestic disturbance involving the same couple just a few hours before the shooting.
