PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A woman was hit in her face by a stray bullet in the Ogontz section of North Philadelphia, and the shooting may be linked to a dog attacking a young boy. One dog died after the incident.

Police said the bullet might have ricocheted after being fired at a dog mauling the 5-year-old boy.

The incident happened at about 7:15 a.m. on Ogontz Avenue near the intersection of Godfrey Avenue and Limekiln Pike.

Both the boy and woman have been placed in stable condition at local hospitals. The dog bit the boy in his face and legs, according to police.

Police recovered the weapon, but the man who fired the weapon was not arrested, as he had a permit to carry.

Authorities said one dog died, while another dog was placed into the custody of ACCT Philly.
