Woman shot and killed by police officers after pointing a gun at them in North Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A woman died after being shot by two police officers Sunday morning in North Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Police said the officers found the 35-year-old woman holding a gun to her head just after 4 a.m. along West Erie Avenue near North 9th Street in Hunting Park.

The officers ordered the woman to drop the gun and when she didn't comply, one of the officers tased her.

Authorities said the woman then fled from the officers and while they chased her, police said she pointed her gun at them. The officers then shot her several times.

She was taken to the hospital and listed in critical condition. The woman was pronounced dead just before 5 p.m. on Sunday.

The officers were not hurt in the incident. They're on administrative duty as the shooting is investigated. Police said the officers were wearing body cameras and they were turned on throughout the incident.

One officer has been on the force for two years and the other has been in law enforcement for three years.
