New walking tour explores the trailblazing women of Philadelphia

Badass Women’s History Tour kicks off during Women’s History Month

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia seems like it’s never short of historical tours.

But Rebecca Fisher, co-founder of Beyond the Bells Tours, discovered that historical tours featuring women who helped shape the city were in short supply.

“I really wanted to shed light on some of the really amazing women that have formed Philadelphia and to give people an opportunity to learn about people they wouldn’t hear about in a typical Philadelphia tour,” she said.

During Women’s History Month, the Badass Women’s History Tour will do just that. The 1.5-mile tour through Old City and Center City highlights female trailblazers.

“Barbara Gittings, Ona Judge. We’re going to cover women in medicine, so Rebecca Cole, the Jeering Episode. They learn about queer leaders as well as the Red Rose Girls,” Fisher said.

She hopes people from all walks of life use this month to explore different exhibits, murals and places dedicated to female change-makers across Philadelphia.

“To have a more holistic understanding of who has formed America and also who has formed Philadelphia.”

The tour is $49 per person. More information can be found here.
