PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Pro wrestling’s flagship event is coming back to Philadelphia for the first time in 25 years.
The WWE, along with Mayor Jim Kenney and the Eagles, announced Wednesday that Lincoln Financial Field will host WrestleMania 40 in 2024. The event will be spread over two nights, April 6 and 7.
WWE will also bring a week-long schedule of events to the city, including its Monday Night Raw and Friday Night Smackdown shows, its annual Hall of Fame ceremony, and a fan festival at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
The last time WrestleMania came to Philadelphia was in 1999, featuring Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock in the main event.
The announcement comes after WWE chairman Vince McMahon announced his retirement from the company he had built into a global entity, following an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct.
