PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two people, including an 11-year-old boy, are in critical condition after a two-car crash involving a wrong-way driver in the Spring Garden neighborhood.
Around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, police said a white 2021 Hyundai Kona was traveling south in the northbound lanes of Broad Street. Then, the 33-year-old driver ran a red light at the intersection of Broad and Wallace streets, and he hit a white 2017 Toyota Camry that was going east, authorities said.
Both cars sustained heavy front-end damage. Medics took the offending driver to the hospital with serious injuries.
A 39-year-old passenger in the Camry was taken to the hospital in stable condition. The driver of the Camry, a 37-year-old man, refused medical treatment, but he accompanied medics to the hospital with his 11-year-old son, who was critically hurt in the crash and suffered multiple injuries.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
