PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The game of pickleball was invented in the 1960s, but this court game — which is a mix of tennis, badminton and Ping-Pong — has only recently gained widespread appeal.

It is a great form of exercise, but several recent articles have focused on the fact that it can be a source of injury because of the quick stop-and-go movements.

Problems ranging from mild tendonitis to serious knee injuries can occur. The best ways to avoid injury are to stretch before and after playing, and work on strength and flexibility regularly.

Remember to pace yourself when you play, and don't let the small court or plastic pickle balls fool you: If you are not prepared, you can get hurt.
