NJ YouTube star in cable piracy case gets 5½ years in prison, forfeits $30M in assets

SWEDESBORO, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — A popular YouTube content creator has been sentenced to 5 1/2 years behind bars for his role as the leader of a large-scale cable piracy scheme.

Bill Omar Carrasquillo, 36, was convicted on federal charges of tax evasion, fraud and copyright infringement.

Known on YouTube by the handle "Omi in a hellcat," Carrasquillo and his partners stole copyrighted cable TV accounts and resold them for $15 per month to their subscribers.

In addition to serving jail time, Carrasquillo was ordered to pay a $15 million fine on top of forfeiting $30 million in assets, including his him, luxury cars and cash.
