NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Billionaire entrepreneur and businessman Elon Musk is Time’s “Person of the Year” for 2021.

Time announced Monday morning that it believed the head of Tesla and SpaceX had the most impact on the world this year, including a historic SpaceX flight that launched into orbit with an all-civilian crew.

“From the existential crisis of climate change, from unprecedented levels of inequality, to new frontiers of possibility, no one embodies the themes of this year more than 2021 Time ‘Person of the Year,’ Elon Musk,” the magazine’s editor-in-chief, Edward Felsenthal, said in a YouTube livestream announcing the choice.

Time described Musk as a “clown, genius, edgelord, visionary, industrialist, showman, cad” who “aspires to save our planet and get us a new one to inhabit.”

Musk, known for his Twitter musings, hadn’t commented on the announcement as of Monday morning, but he was interviewed by Time for the issue.

“I admire anyone who is making a positive contribution to humanity,” Musk said in the interview. “Whether that is in entertainment, or in technology, I think anyone who’s sort of doing things that are really useful to the rest of humanity, I admire them greatly.”

Time also announced its “Heroes of the Year” as the scientists behind the COVID-19 vaccines.
