A city judge has approved assault charges against a former correctional officer for an incident involving an inmate last year at the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center.
Prosecutors said Djean Williams, who was imprisoned and awaiting sentencing after admitting he shot a teenager at a rec center in 2023, attacked Sgt. Ernest Blair at the facility. They said that when Williams was taken to the medical unit, Blair followed Williams and assaulted him, and Williams had to be hospitalized.
Blair was formally arraigned on aggravated and simple assault charges, as well as reckless endangerment and official oppression.
Williams was also charged for the incident and pleaded guilty last summer. He was sentenced to probation.
