A giant sinkhole in Mayfair has been spreading across a residential block, to the point it's now taking up most of the width of the street.
Neighbors say it's an eyesore and a safety hazard.
This is on the 2900 block of Fanshawe Street, a few blocks from the Roosevelt shopping plaza off the Boulevard.
Neighbors tell NBC10 it was just a small dent back in March, but it's been spreading since. There's a giant barricade with cones surrounding it, right next to a big pile of dirt on the street. There's barely enough room for a small car to get by and the sidewalk is broken.
People who live nearby are fed up.
The Philadelphia Water Department says the hole is connected to a problem with a private sewer line.
Crews are now working on the plumbing issue and the sinkhole. The Water Department says plumbing work is expected to continue into next week. Officials have not said when they expect the sinkhole to be fixed.
