Guardrails and more wrong-way signs are coming to Route 55 in an effort to make that troubled highway safer.
New Jersey Department of Transportation officials say they've developed an "action plan" after investigating the history of deadly crashes along that stretch through Cumberland and Gloucester counties. They say crews are already working to clear trees to improve visibility. And, they've placed message boards reminding drivers to use caution on 55.
Assemblyman Bill Moen calls it a "positive step" after five people were killed in crashes on the highway this summer.
