More than 83 tons of meat are being recalled across the country because the USDA says they weren't inspected and were shipped out with fake inspection stickers.
The recall impacts more than 167,000 pounds of raw pork, beef, and goat meat produced by Star Meat Delivery Inc. of North Carolina. The meat was produced before Sept. 22, and the USDA says it has fake inspection stickers bearing the establishment number “EST. 1363.”
So far, there have been no confirmed reports of illnesses or injuries.
The company claims the USDA stamps are not fake. It says the establishment number in question was “legitimately reserved” as part of the USDA application process while it seeks approval to process and package meat for a Georgia distributor.
