New exhibit ‘revisits’ the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia — the first World’s Fair in North America

The Lits Building in Center City is becoming a time machine. It'll take us back 150 years to when Philadelphia hosted the World's Fair -- the first in North America. "Revisit 1876" is a free exhibit set to open in late June, just as the country's 250th anniversary celebrations are ramping up. The Center City District Foundation says it will tell the story of the attractions that brought millions of people from around the world to Fairmount Park for America's Centennial, including the giant Corliss steam engine, Baldwin locomotives, the typewriter, Alexander Graham Bell’s first telephone, and don't forget the newest treat: popcorn. The exhibition will run through November. (Rendering provided by Center City District)
