Your electric bill could be going up starting Monday. That's because electricity gets more expensive to generate as we head into the summer and crank up the AC.
The change only impacts customers who get their electricity from PECO and not from competitive suppliers. The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission says the bill for an average PECO customer will go up about $5 a month.
Meanwhile, PECO workers voted to authorize a strike over the weekend, but they're still on the job. Workers who maintain PECO's electrical and natural gas system have been without a contract since April 1. They say contract talks have stalled.
Workers are fighting for better wages, retirement and health benefits. A strike by PECO workers would be the first in the company's history.
A PECO spokesperson says the company is prepared should a work stoppage happen, and customers do not need to worry about any service interruptions.
