Shapiro administration launches new tool showing immunization rates across the state

The kindergarten measles vaccination rate in Pennsylvania is below what public health officials recommend for herd immunity. And some schools appear to have a substantial number of kids attending despite not getting their required shots. The data come from a state tool that -- for the first time -- displays vaccination rates at individual schools. Our analysis finds that nearly 94 percent of kindergartners in Pennsylvania are fully vaccinated against measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR). That's below the 95 percent benchmark. Montgomery County is the only county in our area to reach that threshold. Across the state, schools report thousands of students attending even though their vaccination records do not meet requirements. But the data do not reveal how many are actually missing their shots -- or if it's a matter of unprocessed paperwork.
