It appears Planters is killing off Mr. Peanut, the spokes-nut they’ve been using since 1916. The character’s Twitter profile has included a link to a “final spot,” which portrays his Nutmobile careening off the road. Mr. Peanut and two passengers hurtle over a cliff and end up clinging to a branch above a deep abyss before Mr. Peanut lets go. The spot ends with an epitaph: Mr. Peanut, 1916-2020. No word yet on whether this is the official Super Bowl ad, or a tease for one. Or maybe... just a publicity stunt. But he's had a good run, over 100 years.
