Less than 24 hours after mounting a comeback of their own to win on Saturday, the Padres allowed the Diamondbacks to return the favor, losing to their NL West foe 12-7 after leading the game 6-0 and 7-1 at various points in the game. Michael King was terrific pitching at high altitude, striking out 8 while allowing just 2 runs on a solo homer in the 5th and 6th innings. Luis Campusano and Manny Machado provided explosive offense, with the breakout backstop ripping an RBI-double in the 1st inning and a solo homer in the 6th, while Machado hit a 2-run homer in the 3rd and a 3-run homer in the 5th, demonstrating the power that Padres fans have been waiting all year to see. But things got dicey in the 7th inning, when David Morgan allowed three consecutive singles to load the bases for Tim Tawa with the score 7-2. Tawa proceeded to hit a grand slam and bring the D-Backs to within a run of the Padres. Bradgley Rodriguez then entered the game, and surrendered a double to Ildemaro Vargas, a walk to Corbin Carroll, and then a 2-run double to Lourdes Gurriel Jr. to give Arizona their first lead of the game. The Diamondbacks piled on in the 8th inning, with Vargas tripling with the bases loaded to plate three more runs, and Ketel Marte bringing home Vargas with a single to give them a 12-7 lead that they'd never relinquish. The Padres split the two game series in Mexico City, and now return home for a 6-game homestand against the Cubs and White Sox.
