If you’ve seen the Academy Award-winning film “Nomadland,” you might describe it as thoughtful, spiritual and maybe even quietly inspiring. What you probably wouldn’t say is, now that’s a warm-up for a Marvel movie!

But that doesn’t mean it can’t happen — or that it won’t be awesome.

“Nomadland” director Chloe Zhao’s next project is the upcoming Marvel popcorn chomper, “Eternals,” due in theaters on November 5.

And it seems that while we were all tabulating our Oscars pools and catching up on trying to see them all, Zhao had already been polishing up “Eternals,” as the first trailer has arrived today, per Yahoo News.

The story concerns a race of immortal, superpowered aliens who have lived on Earth for years. As previously reported, the film centers around an ensemble cast with LGBTQ themes.

As with traditional vampire characters, immortal sci-fi beings often experience frustrated ennui, and that state might play right into Zhao’s ability to express such bottomless, shaded wonder. Anyway, it’s a Marvel movie, so she’ll get the budget to flesh it out.

The ensemble cast includes Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Gil Birmingham, Harish Patel, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek, and Angelina Jolie.

This sort of surprise pairing recalls Ang Yang being tabbed to make the ultimately fan-divisive “Hulk” back in 2003. Marvel is hoping this combo works out better.
