The Padres lost to the Blue Jays 7-6 in 11 innings on Thursday, falling for the sixth consecutive game and second straight sweep. The Padres' offensive woes continued for the most part, as the team went just 2-9 with runners in scoring position, with both of the 2 hits coming in extra innings. Gavin Sheets hit a 2-run home run with a runner on 1st base in the 2nd inning and then again in the 9th inning to tie the game, but those were the only two run-scoring hits inside the first 9 innings and neither came with runners in scoring position.

Stephen Kolek pitched fairly well, rebounding from a poor start against the Mariners. Kolek allowed a lot of traffic on the bases, but ultimately allowed 4 runs (3 earned) to collect his second quality start in four outings. In extra innings, the Padres scored one run in both the top of the 10th and 11th innings, but weren't able to score multiple runs and give themselves a cushion. Luis Arraez delivered a 2-out RBI-single in the 10th but was left on base and Gavin Sheets drove in Manny Machado in the top of the 11th, but was also stranded on base. Sheets went 3-5 with 2 home runs and 5 RBIs on the day, but the rest of the offense went 5-34 with 1 RBI. The Blue Jays were able to drive in 2 runs off of Jeremiah Estrada in the bottom of the 11th and went 6-21 with runners in scoring position. The Padres will lick their wounds and head to Atlanta for a 3-game series with the Braves beginning on Friday.
